BS 8555 – A Phased Approach to ISO 14001
Ideally suited to small-medium sized companies, the BS 8555 phased approach to EMS implementation will allow you to demonstrate environmental achievement at any one of 5 intermediate benchmarks, prior to being certificated to the ISO 14001 standard.
The BS 8555 methodology allows your company to implement an EMS in 6 phases, working towards the phased benchmark that best suits your business needs, market demands, and the availability of resources, with the flexibility to proceed to ISO 14001 certification later, if desired.
The 6 Phases of the BS 8555 are:
- Commitment and Establishing the Baseline
- Identifying and Ensuring Compliance with Legal, and other Requirements
- Developing Objectives, Targets and Programmes
- Implementation and Operation of the Environmental Management System
- Checking, Audit and Review
- Environmental Management System Acknowledgement to ISO 14001 or EMAS
